The old Howard Hotel in Saluda has been renamed Mountain Manor and is being operated by Mrs. Henry M. Needham of Fort Myers, Fla. . ... St. Luke’s hospital is in need of thermos water pitchers for use of patients during the hot summer months. Thermos pitchers will hold ice water tor a long time. Please look on your shelves and see what you can give to the hos pital. These pitchers can’t be bought now, and suffering patients will be most grateful .... The rationing board spent $52.38 last month as follows: $4.73 for print l3|«Rfill.30 to Calhoun Office sup p$36.29 for stamps. The money to pay these bills was raised by voluntary subscriptions. In most places the town and coun ty governments give the money, out ngre, it is up to tne people. Chairman C. J. Lynch of the De fense Council says the rationing board is out of money. Unfortu nately the government doesn’t grant franking privileges to the board and they have to use stamps in correspondence. But Board Chairman Dudley Smith says that the use of stamps is cheaper and saves gasoline and tires by not making trips in person .... The stores in Columbus close Thursday afternoons instead of Tuesday . . Mrs. Sara Jane Horne Mrs. Sara Jane Horne died sud denly Tuesday at her home in Melvin Hiill section of Polk county following a long period of declin ing health. Twice married, her first husband was Pinckney Gilbert, and from this union survives two children, Mrs. D. T. Cantrell and W. Beverly Gilbert. From her second marriage to James Horne, four daughters, Mrs. R. M. Spangle of Spindale, Mrs. A. J. Hogan of Rutherford ton, Mrs. A. L. Prince of Campo bello route 1, and Mrs. P. E. Camp of Spartanburg; and four sons, James Horne of Charleston, Sam Home of Ninety-Six, George Horne of Elizabeth City, and Smith Horne of Norfolk, Va., sur vive. Also surviving is a brother, Sam. Gilbert of Chesnee route 1. Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) afternoon at 4 o’clock in the Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren, where she was a life long member, con ducted by the Rev. W. A. Reid. Interment will be in the church cemetery.—Spartanburg Herald. Merchants Supper Meeting Regular quarterly meeting of Merchants Association at Sunny dale Thursday 7 p. m.
